How to Distinguish the True Prophets from the False Prophets.
How to know the difference between false prophets and the true prophets.
Who is a prophet?
A prophet is a person who speaks for God or a deity, or by divine inspiration. (in the Old Testament) a person chosen to speak for God and to guide the people of Israel: Moses was the greatest of Old Testament prophets.
Before the completion of the Bible, Prophets are the month pieces for God. To be safe you need to listen to God and his Prophets.
The Bible says, “By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, And by a prophet he was preserved.”
Hosea 12:13 NKJV 2 Chronicles 20:20
However we need to careful about Prophets and God says do not listen to all Prophets because some of them are not representative of God. 1 John 4:1.
Jeremiah was one of the old prophet for the nation of Israel, he said:
“And the LORD said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.” Jeremiah 14:14 NKJV
The danger many people of God face was that many people do not know their calling. It is possible to predict an event that comes to pass one it two times and they will start introducing themselves as prophet.
How do know who is a true prophets?
God told the nation of Israel how to know the difference between false prophets and the true prophets in Deuteronomy 18:20,22
He says,
“But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’
when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”
Deuteronomy 18:20, 22
There are many false prophets in our country speaking in the name of Gods but they are false prophets. False prophecy carries capital punishment and lost of respect from their followers. What huge price to pay?
False prophecy is common during the election period.
Majority of prophets prophecy the outcome of US Presidential election in favor of one candidate. If their candidates fail to win the election, then, they will lose credibility.
Again, Men of God needs to be careful because your members can trick you into false prophecy. For example, one of my coworkers realized that am a pastor. She asked me to prophecy to her. People like that can lead you to start prophesying falsehood in God’s name.
To avoid being a false prophet, you can asked God in prayer who you shall vote for. I asked God to show who to vote for. That night He show me a pool of blood. I realized that this election may be bloody.
Again not all prophesy must come to pass because some of the prophesy maybe conditional. Like what happens in the City of Nineveh, God sent Jonah to go and warn them about the impending danger of destruction if they failed to repent. The whole city declared national fasting and prayer and God change his mind. Jonah was not happy that God did not destroyed the city. Some prophesy are conditional.
God has right to change his mind and show mercy to sinners.
America is a symbol of Democracy and Justice. Therefore, if Americans election results in blood shed, America image and moral value in the world be in danger. Our prophets must be careful about their involvement in politics. The caveat is that, false prophecy carries death sentence during MOSES time.
